Sometimes One Should Listen to the Younger Brother

Image
If you'll recall, Joey told me to buy Loopring yesterday.  Today it is up almost 40%.  If it does "pop" soon like he said, my chump change investment in it won't make me get rich, but I hope he hits the jackpot and can cash out. I should probably also mention that ex-hubby's advice to buy Polkadot also has paid off but it's only up by a little under 3%.

Loopring and Polkadot

No, not the names of jewelry and fashion wear.  According to Joey, GameStop is going to launch an NFT market with Loopring being an integral part of that.  Last week it was $0.52 and today it's around $1.00.  Damn him for waiting to tell me, because FOMO got me buying it at $1.04 and it's down to $0.95 as of this writing.  Yes, I know, be patient, stay in for the long haul. I also bought Polkadot (DOT) today at $48.72 a coin, so I only got a measly 20 coins.  Something about a parachain auction and it's going to "pop" soon.  Seriously, I don't know how I would ever hit it big.  It's like wanting to win the lottery but you never buy a ticket, or you buy one at Christmas with your stocking money.  Eric - "Maybe this isn't for you.  An Ark invest fund might be better.  That way when all this drops 60-70 percent you won't be cursing at Joey and me."  Ahh, he knows me too well.  After all, we used to be married. Joey - "LMAO. Agreed...

Halloween - and Another Purchase

Image
It's 1:07AM on October 31, officially Halloween, and I am sitting in front of my iMac buying more crypto.  I just deposited another $1,000 into my Coinbase Pro account and put $950 towards Solana (SOL).  I don't like putting in an order as a "Limit" order, though wise investors would probably tell me to do so, but when I have my mind set on something, I go for the market price so I can get it over with.  I sat there and watched the darn graph go up and down again, and when the price inched just a teeny tiny bit down in the decimals of $190 per coin, I bought 5 coins. Everyone has been telling me SOL is a good bet.  I didn't buy it last week because the price per coin is a bit high.  But one news article led to another led to another and I decided to go for it.  First, I read that the crypto firm FTX is planning on putting an ad out on Super Bowl Sunday.  And it turns out the famous good-looking couple of Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have equity stake ...

Shiba Inu - because I love dogs

Image
I heard Eric mention something about Shiba Inu during lunch later in the week, and being the dog-loving girl that I am, I started looking up more about this crypto.  It was so dang cheap, and yep, cheap is totally within my budget.  I opened a Coinbase Pro account since I can't buy SHIB on Gemini, deposited $700 into my account, bought $200 worth of SHIB coins over the course of a couple of days as I could see it was climbing (this amounted to over 4.5 millions coins), and bought $500 worth of ADA (Cardano). A day later, SHIB activity looked a bit crazy, it was making the news on it's meteoric rise.  I became obsessed with watching the Coinbase Pro graphs scroll green and red.  What's going on? I ask Eric.  He tells me he sold some of his coins because it seems like the Doge coin incident all over again.  Joey and Eric both told me to dump my initial investment and just keep what's left over because it's probably not going to last.  I learned a new phr...

The First Day

Image
After lots of texting back and forth with my ex and my brother, I finally settled on the trading platforms to use.  Yes, this decision took me quite a while and let me explain why.  I am a bit paranoid about entering my bank account information and depositing money into a company which is not FDIC insured or resides in another country.  Remember, I hate risks.  I also fear some smart 20-something will hack into a "secure" site and get access to my information and next thing I know, my bank account has been drained.  I keep my money spread across four different banks because I don't like to put all my eggs (or savings) into one basket. I decided to use Gemini for my first trades.  Gemini was founded by the Winklevoss twins, you know, the twins that claimed Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook and won a large settlement from the lawsuit.  First of all, they're quite attractive to look at, and secondly, I am not a fan of Zuckerberg nor do I have ...

The Trigger

About a month or two ago, my younger brother stopped by to visit and on his way out, he said "If you've got $42,000 laying around doing nothing, you should buy Bitcoin." "What?  Are you kidding me?  It's going to cost me $42K?", I asked. "I'm telling you, it's going to go up, now would be the time to buy."  Well, he didn't quite explain the buying process to me since he was leaving, and I ignored his words of wisdom. Fast forward to last week, younger brother, AKA Joey, sends me a text stating "If you had listened to me, you'd have made over $20,000 by now.  Bitcoin is over $60K."  Seriously??  I googled Bitcoin and sure enough, all signs point to it climbing higher and higher. OK, so now he's got my attention.  A quick text to my ex-husband asking him what he knows about Bitcoin and bing, bing, bing, back comes a bunch of replies regarding how you don't have to buy a whole bitcoin, that my daughter even owns a fr...

The Beginning

Image
It's been a week since I started learning about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and I decided I might as well blog about my experience, as if we needed another blog about investing in Bitcoin.   Well, you're getting it anyways! First of all, I'm a female software architect working in a male-dominated technology space.  I have female friends who work in tech, but when we get together, we talk about kids and crafting, or our next vacation.  It's the male friends that I have my Bitcoin conversations with, so it seems women are not as interested in this market as males.  I stuck my head in the sand all this time and saw the news about Bitcoin and that meme coin called the Dogecoin, and how Elon Musk make it skyrocket in value, and I didn't care.  Why?  Because I'm one of those people who'd rather stuff my cash under my mattress and play it safe with my money than to invest and take risks.  I'd rather put $100K into a savings account earning only 0.5...
