The Beginning

It's been a week since I started learning about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and I decided I might as well blog about my experience, as if we needed another blog about investing in Bitcoin.   Well, you're getting it anyways!

First of all, I'm a female software architect working in a male-dominated technology space.  I have female friends who work in tech, but when we get together, we talk about kids and crafting, or our next vacation.  It's the male friends that I have my Bitcoin conversations with, so it seems women are not as interested in this market as males.  I stuck my head in the sand all this time and saw the news about Bitcoin and that meme coin called the Dogecoin, and how Elon Musk make it skyrocket in value, and I didn't care.  Why?  Because I'm one of those people who'd rather stuff my cash under my mattress and play it safe with my money than to invest and take risks.  I'd rather put $100K into a savings account earning only 0.50% interest than take the time to learn about investments and how to make the most of my cash.

So here I am, someone completely not suited to be dabbling in cryptocurrency, about to dip my toes into the water and hope not to drown.  I'm documenting my experience for your entertaining and maybe you'll learn something from it.  This is not intended to be an educational website, you can google cryptocurrency and Bitcoin and find much more trustworthy information than what I can provide here.

I heard Eric mention something about Shiba Inu during lunch later in the week, and being the dog-loving girl that I am, I started looking up more about this crypto.  It was so dang cheap, and yep, cheap is totally within my budget.  I opened a Coinbase Pro account since I can't buy SHIB on Gemini, deposited $700 into my account, bought $200 worth of SHIB coins over the course of a couple of days as I could see it was climbing (this amounted to over 4.5 millions coins), and bought $500 worth of ADA (Cardano). Loopring and Polkadot

No, not the names of jewelry and fashion wear.  According to Joey, GameStop is going to launch an NFT market with Loopring being an integral part of that.  Last week it was $0.52 and today it's around $1.00.  Damn him for waiting to tell me, because FOMO got me buying it at $1.04 and it's down to $0.95 as of this writing.  Yes, I know, be patient, stay in for the long haul. I also bought Polkadot (DOT) today at $48.72 a coin, so I only got a measly 20 coins.  Something about a parachain auction and it's going to "pop" soon.  Seriously, I don't know how I would ever hit it big.  It's like wanting to win the lottery but you never buy a ticket, or you buy one at Christmas with your stocking money.  Eric - "Maybe this isn't for you.  An Ark invest fund might be better.  That way when all this drops 60-70 percent you won't be cursing at Joey and me."  Ahh, he knows me too well.  After all, we used to be married. The First Day

After lots of texting back and forth with my ex and my brother, I finally settled on the trading platforms to use.  Yes, this decision took me quite a while and let me explain why.  I am a bit paranoid about entering my bank account information and depositing money into a company which is not FDIC insured or resides in another country.  Remember, I hate risks.  I also fear some smart 20-something will hack into a "secure" site and get access to my information and next thing I know, my bank account has been drained.  I keep my money spread across four different banks because I don't like to put all my eggs (or savings) into one basket.
